National Capital Region Police Office head Director Oscar Albayalde said on Friday that there has been no reported incidents of pickpocketing or snatching in Divisora since December 16.

According to Chief Albayalde, the area has been cleared of any recent reports of theft ever since the Christmas season began.

The NCRPO chief and other uniformed policemen went from stall-to-stall inspecting the various products being sold such as toys, fruits, and horns.

"Since nagsimula 'yung Christmas season, walang incident ng snatching sa lugar na ito despite na napakaraming tao,"  told reporters during his inspection of the Divisora area.

Albayalde cited the heightened police presence as a possible reason for the decline of crimes in the area. Divisora was once notorious for having many snatchers, with two to three reports made daily.

"Yung PNP uniformed personnel natin dito napakarami," Albayalde told reporters. "Ang incidents na nai-report dito since December ay missing children, mga dalawa hanggang tatlo bawat araw, pero naibabalik naman sa mga magulang. Ang meron (ay) theft sa loob ng mall, shoplifting,"

Although four reports of shoplifting have occurred, the four suspects responsible were also apprehended.

The police force also checked the fireworks stores for any illegal fireworks being sold, and they found none.

"'Pag may illegal firecracker ay kailangang makumpiska at maaresto 'yung nagtitinda kasi selling, buying, and possession, pare-parehong acts prohibited. Whether you are selling, buying, or in possession nung mga ipinagbabawal under Republic Act 7183," he said.

Afterward, Chief Albayalde went to Baclaran to remind citizens of the dangers associated with fireworks.

"Ang nakita naman natin dito ay walang masyadong nagtitinda ng paputok kasi 'yung precinct commander dito, dahil EOD [Explosives and Ordnance Disposal] graduate, ipinagbawal ang pagbebenta ng paputok." he said.
