People find it tough to remain friends with their exes. But not for the President, who seems like he’s got a knack of being chased by controversy. 

President Rodrigo Duterte had his first marriage of 27 years with Elizabeth Zimmerman annulled in the year of 2000, but they still remain good friends with each other. 

Zimmerman is the mother of his three children Sara, Baste, and Paolo. 

When asked, Zimmerman said that she would rather just keep the happy memories and has let go of all the womanizing that she caught Duterte with, which the President admitted. 

Zimmerman was diagnosed to have stage 3 breast cancer last August 2015, yet she still takes time to show her support for her ex-husband. 

During the Mr. Duterte’s run for presidency, Zimmerman took time of her treatment to help his election campaign. “He’s a very thoughtful person. 

And he’s taking care of me, even up to now. Even when he goes abroad, there’s always something for me," she said, giving a glimpse of the soft side of the tough-talking Davao City mayor.

She also gave a hint of the man that President Duterte is, saying that he is his own man and does not take any advice. “He has his own mind and he also has his own decision. Maybe he will listen but it is always his decision,” she said. 

Among their children, Sara is Duterte’s favorite, she said. When their children fight, Zimmerman said Duterte would always take the side of Daddy’s girl and punish the boys even if Sara was really at fault.

“Si Baste o si Paolo is the one to be blamed,” she said.
