It can be recalled that earlier, President Duterte met with the leaders of Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) and announced their all-out support with the President's campaign against illegal drugs.

Quoting from the statement released by CPP last month, they said:

"In positive response, the CPP reiterates its standing order for the NPA to carry out operations to disarm and arrest the chieftains of the biggest drug syndicates, as well as other criminal syndicates involved in human rights violations and destruction of the environment,"

But last Friday, CPP has announced that they will no longer support President Duterte's war against drugs. Quoting from their new statement, they said:

"In line with standing orders, the New People’s Army (NPA) will continue to intensify its operations to arrest and disarm drug trade operators and protectors. However, these will no longer be considered as cooperative with the Duterte regime’s undemocratic and anti-people 'war on drugs,'"

As for their reasons, they explained how the campaign have become anti-people and said:

"Human rights are being violated with impunity by police personnel, emboldened by Duterte’s assurances of 'I got your back' and his public declarations of contempt against human rights,"

"He dishes out threats of imposing martial law. He has made himself a laughing stock among legal circles. He, however, is not laughing and threatens anyone who chooses to stand in his way,"

Meanwhile, both parties are still positive for the push through of the upcoming formal talks scheduled on August 20, in Oslo Norway.
