Pepe Herrera, or more popularly known as ‘Benny’ in ABS-CBN’s hit series Ang Probinsyano, is not your typical sidekick.
Before becoming Cardo’s partner, Herrera was a theater actor and played Tolits in the acclaimed musical “Rak of Aegis.”
“Ako po si Tolits, alternate po ni Jerald Napoles. ‘Pag weekend po, si Jerald, sa hapon po ako. Hindi po kasi nagtugma ang schedule ko kasi nagti-taping po ako noon,” Herrera told Balita.
Life wasn’t always rosy for Benny. After finishing his degree at UST’s Conservatory of Music, he went abroad and became a seaman and a cruise ship waiter.
“Dati po akong seaman, umabot lang po ako ng two years, ayoko na kasi mahirap pala. So naging tambay po ako,” Herrera said. “Hanggang sa may nagsabing mag-audition po ako sa Rak of Aegis (musical show). Hayun po, natanggap naman ako sa awa ng Diyos.”
He appeared in several shows, such as #WalangForever with Jericho Rosales, but it’s in Ang Probinsyano that he became well-known.
It’s not surprising. The show is dominating primetime with an average rating of 43.1% per episode, according to Kanta Media.
With all his blessings, Hererra remains humble. He said he owe it to Star Magic for helping his career take off.
