President Rodrigo Duterte directed a tirade against Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno after the Chief Justice meddled with the President's list of alleged drug protectors and suspects.

She told the judges named on the list that they did not need to surrender unless a warrant had been presented, infuriating Duterte and causing him to open up the idea of imposing martial law to get her out of the way.

However, After the heated rants of the President, he apologized on Thursday to Sereno saying: "I get tangled with the Chief Justice. I would apologize to the Chief Justice for the harsh words. It was never intended. Ba't ako kasi because of the magnitude of the problem."

"It was my way of solving the problem within the ambit of my powers as president. Kayo ang humihingi eh, even the media," he added.

Although, he once again emphasized the dangers the nation faces with the escalating number of people getting involved with illegal drugs and further noted that there was no need for him to "go through the motions of the warrant of arrest" saying: "Trabaho ko kasi 'yan, para malaman mo na 'yung katabi mo, adik."
