These dark and sarcastic comics by Russian artist Anton Gudim are perfect for those who like to be challenged. While some are interesting social commentary, others are just plain absurd and a little disturbing. Many of them will take a certain knowledge and time to figure out. But all of them are very cool.

Anton is from Moscow and has been illustrating for as long as he can remember. “I drew all my life. In childhood, at school, in college,” he told Bored Panda. “I would draw cards and silly comics for my friends. It was always just a hobby for me because I have a technical education. I was always good at maths.”

While it may appear that many of his comics are a biting critique of modern society, Anton doesn’t have a particular aim or motive, they just come naturally to him. “At first my comics were just a way to discover the depths of my imagination,” he explained. “But I’m glad that they can inspire and entertain other people. I am not out to make people laugh, but I do believe that it’s important for artists to add a little humor into their works.” Anton simply likes to highlight absurdity and dark humor wherever he sees it, and enjoys challenging people to look at everyday things from a different perspective.

While he is currently working full-time as an engineer, Anton would love the opportunity to turn his hobby into something more substantial, and become a professional artist. For now though, he is happy to keep producing these imaginative comics in his spare time. We are so glad that he does!
