People from Barangay Digkilaan in Iligan City are expecting plenty of devotees to flock to see the "Birhen sa Mais" for the upcoming Holy Week.
A coincidence to some and a holy revelation to others, it's an ear of corn that has an image of a "crowned lady praying" right in the middle.
Back in 2002, this curio was picked up by Catalina Barita while picking up feeds for her chicken. Unexamined by experts nor the Catholic Church, it was kept by the owner until her death in 2012 as she was buried next to the altar built for the alleged holy corn.
The protector of the corn, Virginia Ancho, even said that the corn has gotten bigger and that the image of the Virgin Mary is clearer than it ever was before. Ancho is a great believer of the image as she believes that it is the reason why her grandchild survived a head injury.
