or cocktails

Or just about anything with alcohol in it?

If yes, do you turn red when you've had a little bit too much to drink?

Do You Turn Red While Drinking? Here's Why You Should Stop!

Don’t worry, you are not alone! About 8% of the world’s population also turn red when they drink so you have nothing to be ashamed of.

Here’s why it happens:
Alcohol flush reaction (AFR), or the 'Asian Glow' happens when you have too much acetaldehyde in your body. This normally occurs when you have acetaldehyde dehydrogenase deficiency.

Here’s what happens when you drink, you take in alcohol, it turns into acetaldehyde, and it turns into acetate. When you have the aforementioned genetic deficiency, this process could potentially turn dangerous.

When the amount of acetate in your body becomes too much, your skin turns red, you get headaches and a heightened heart rate, and you experience nausea.

While it's hard to tell people to quit drinking entirely, here are a few tips to manage your 'Asian Glow':

1.    Drink in moderation, that’s the golden rule.

2.    Drink something with a lower alcohol content, and always check the label of whatever you’re it is drinking.

3.    DO NOT DRINK ON AN EMPTY STOMACH. Slow down the rate of alcohol absorption by munching down on some bar snacks.

4.    Flush the alcohol out of your system by drinking water.
