On Friday, March 31, 2017, the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) Negros Oriental received a call for help from a concerned citizen about a 17- year old girl seeking help from the authorities after being repeatedly raped by her own father for the past 10 years

The authorities immediately took action and rescued her from their house in Barangay Bassak Zamboangita, Negros Oriental. Tolentino mentioned the plan was only to rescue the girl, but the father had an unlicensed firearm, so they arrested him because of that. Also found in his house were a .357 revolver and live ammunition for a 12-gauge shotgun, which, the father said, was given to him by a friend for self-defense purposes.

According to the letter she wrote, she had been threatened by her father not to tell anyone or else he will kill her.

The mother and siblings had no knowledge of the girl's abuse. In an interview, the father allegedly denied that he was raping his daughter, but admitted that he beat her for not being at home.

The girl is now in DSWD’s custody and will undergo counseling, stress debriefing, and medical checkup as she is currently traumatized.
