On March 11, ‘Tawag ng Tanghalan’ crowned its inaugural grand champion. The amateur singing competition, a viable door for a music career, announced Noven Belleza as the winner.
Noven is a humble farmer with big dreams.
The Philippine Daily Inquirer reported that Noven quit his schooling when he was just 15 in order to help his father plow the fields of Hacienda Salome 2 in Barangay 10, Victorias.
He used to study in Doña Andrea Palanca Elementary School and in Victorias National High School, but had to leave after one semester.
When he was asked what he would do with the cash prize he recently won, Noven said that he would use it to help his parents and his seven younger siblings.
He added that he was a fan of the noontime variety show ‘It’s Showtime’ and ‘Tawag ng Tanghalan.’ In fact, it was their town mayor, Francis Palanca, who supported Noven’s dreams and financed his trip to Manila so he could audition for the competition.
Noven won a total of 2 million pesos, a brand new house-and-lot, a musical instrument package, and a talent management contract with ABS-CBN.
Noven said that he considered Air Supply, an Australian pop duo, as one of his major musical influences. That was why he performed a medley of their songs to clinch the win.
He was even congratulated by one half of the duo, Graham Russell. It was reported by ABS-CBN News that Graham sent an e-mail he wrote for Noven to Danee Samonte, one of the producers of the recent Air Supply concert in Manila.
Recently, Noven proved once again just how deserving he is of the songwriter’s praise.
Wish 107.5 released a video of the Tawag ng Tanghalan winner singing yet another Air Supply song, ‘Here I Am.’
