A published study shared by the National Geographic presents statistics showing a ratio of about 2 million sharks killed for every one human attacked by sharks.

Although sharks are one of the most feared creatures of the sea, the chances of being killed by a shark are around 1 in 3.7 million, says NatGeo.

According to the study, a conservative estimate of about 100 million sharks are killed every year by commercial fishing vessels harvesting their fins for soup or as trophy catches. What's more alarming is that the number could possibly be as high as 273 million sharks annually.

Various shark species are being threatened by the fishing industry. Many sharks die after being caught in old fishing nets and floating fishing lines in the ocean since most sharks need to keep moving to breathe

On February 9, another shark became another countless victim while on the Jensen beach in Florida. On the video shared by these three friends, they noticed a shark which seemed to be swimming towards the shore. Until moments later, they discovered that the shark was actually caught in a fishing line and was having trouble swimming.
