‘Tawag ng Tanghalan’ declared its Grand Champion just recently but did you know that something happened in February 2016 between one of its hosts and a member of the judges panel?
The amateur singing competition is a popular segment on ABS-CBN's noontime variety show ‘It’s Showtime.’ One of the hosts at that time was Vice Ganda.
Vice Ganda is known for his blunt comments and straightforward quips. There have been numerous instances when his remarks stirred controversy because he offended someone with his tactless words.
One of the most famous cases is when the comedian uttered a rape joke about Jessica Soho, a GMA reporter.
His exact words were: “Ang hirap nga lang kung si Jessica Soho magbo-bold. Kailangan gang rape lagi. Sasabihin ng rapist, 'Ipasa ang lechon.' Sasabihin naman ni Jessica, 'Eh nasaan yung apple?'”
He has been known to pick fights with showbiz personalities as well, especially if the issue involves him and the LGBT community.
His strong personality, however, found its match in one of ABS-CBN’s talents, Karla Estrada a.k.a. ‘Mumshie.’
Karla, despite her warm moniker, is reportedly known for her rather intimidating aura. When she appeared as one of the judges in the February 22, 2016 episode of ‘It’s Showtime’s Tawag ng Tanghalan,’ Vice was momentarily shocked.
ABS-CBN Entertainment uploaded a video which documented the whole thing. This is how it went:
Vice: “Makukuha mo rin kaya ang boto niya, eh mapili ‘yang babaeng ito. Si Ms. Karla Estrada.”
The camera panned to Karla's self-satisfied face and she replied: “Mapili ako sa spread ko.”
She laughed and Vice asked: “Mare, ano bang spread ang puto mo? ‘Di ba ganoon ‘yung commercial?”
“’Yung kausap niya ‘yung kanyang anino,” Karla said with a smile. “Ang kanyang konsensiya!”
“Safeguard ‘yun, sira,” Vice told her.
“Ay, okay, sorry,” Karla replied with a bow of her head.
“Ay, iba ‘yon, sabon ‘yon. Sabon ba linalagay sa puto?” the comedian quipped.
“Aba mare, anong spread mo, Safeguard?” Vice continued sarcastically.
“Bawal magkamali?” Karla replied with a straight face. “Perfect ka?” she said with annoyance.
