At the crack of dawn, inmates of the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) were jolted awake from their sleep by the authorities because of a greyhound operation that involved a raid of illegal drugs.
Philippine Star reported that prohibited items were confiscated from the prisoners, including drugs, money, and cellular phones. The raid was conducted by the PDEA-7 (Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Region 7), the military, and the police of the CPDRC jail.
The following items were retrieved from the operation: 76 cellular phones, 19 sachets of shabu worth at least 30,000 pesos, money that amounted to 92,000 pesos, laptop and media players, lighters, and drug paraphernalia.
According to Yogi Filemon Ruiz, the PDEA-7 director, the raid was initiated when the Office of the Governor learned that there was an ongoing activity that involved illegal drugs inside the jail.
Ruiz mentioned that he would submit an official report to Governor Hilario Davide III about his observations at the jail, including what he thought was an extremely lax security system.
All of the inmates were completely stripped off of their clothes while the raid was conducted. Pictures of the prisoners waiting for the raid to end surfaced online, showing them sitting on the floor without clothes on.
The photos sparked online outrage because, according to some netizens, the extreme treatment may be considered as inhumane.
