In an interview with the Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP), singer Jona Viray shared her thoughts regarding the difference between GMA Network and ABS-CBN's management style of producing their Sunday music variety shows.
The singer shared her insights as to why the Kapuso network chose to discontinue airing "SOP", "Party Pilipinas" and "Sunday All-Stars". She claimed that "longevity" is a factor as GMA had to come up with one idea after the other to cater to the viewers' tastes.
“Kaya siguro hindi masyadong nagtagal ‘yung mga variety shows namin noon sa GMA, I think they have to come up with another idea para mas mapaigting pa, mas mapaganda pa lalo yung programa kaya they keep on changing.” Jona said.
On the other hand, she also explained the possible reason why "Sunday Pinasaya" is more successful than the programs that it followed. Jona claimed that the viewers found amusement and more entertainment in this kind of variety shows.
"Nagkataon kasi na yung trend ngayon is dumating sa point na mas nagugustuhan yata ng mga tao ang napapanood nila ‘pag Sunday ng tanghali is puro katatawanan or mas novelty pa," she added.
Jona then said that ASAP once thought of changing its programming by adding comedic segments but then chose to stick to its concert-style instead. For Jona, the presence of numerous music artists in ABS-CBN affected the programming style of ASAP.
"Parang nagcome-up din naman sila ng ganoong concept sa ASAP so ngayon lang na bumalik ulit sa musical, concert style, dahil siguro namiss ng mga tao yung ganoong klaseng concept every Sunday ng tanghali. Nagkataon din na maraming mga musical artists na nandito sa ABS. Kaya siguro bumalik yung ganoong klaseng concept ng show," Jona said.
Meanwhile, she recalled the moment when she first saw Jaya Ramsey in the ABS-CBN building for the first time since they signed up contracts to the Kapamilya network.
