In tragic news circulating social media today, 14 lives out of 50 have been cut short in an accident in Tanay, Rizal involving a tourist bus from “Haranah Tours

In the report by ABS-CBN News, the driver responsible for the road accident had been employed by the Panda Coach Tours and Transport, Inc. and is a rookie employee of the said company.

According to Jona Martires, reservation officer of the aforementioned company, 37-year-old Julian Lacorda had been employed for a total of 3 months and had been a driver in another company.

“Ngayon lang nangyari sa amin ito,” Martires said in an interview with DZMM. “'Di bale po ang sasakyan natin ang nasisiraan, 'wag lang 'yung may nawalan tayo [na tao].”

“Kami po ay nakikiramay at kami ay naaano sa pangyayaring ito pero magtutulungan po tayo at aanuhin po natin ang lahat ng gastos sa ospital at sa pagpapalibing ng mga bata,” Martires added.

The passengers, mostly students, came from Quezon City and were on their way to a camping field trip. The bus apparently lost control and crashed into an electric post in the vicinity of Magnetic Hill, Peligrino Farm, Sitio Bayukan, Barangay Sampaloc in Tanay, Rizal.

Vehicular accidents in the Philippines are often caused reckless driving and over-speeding, especially public utility vehicles like jeeps and buses.

Under the Republic Act No. 4136, trucks and buses can only travel at the maximum speed of 80 kilometers per hour while traversing expressways and 30 kph while in boulevards and avenues. Naturally, any number above each figure is considering speeding.

Other causes of road accidents may lie within the vehicle itself, such as the having faulty and defective parts.

The driver Lacorda was taken into custody and had suffered injuries resulting from the crash.

The bus had the plate number TXS 325.

ABS-CBN released these numbers for anyone requiring information concerning the accident.
