In this day and age a lot of people still get teased and ridiculed over their handicaps. Take for example, a person with polio, a blind masseur, or a student with a cleft palate; their handicaps make them the center of attention and often judgment.

The majority of the population who are deemed normal with complete mental and physical facility seem to easily dismiss handicapped people just because they are different. Unlike in other countries, opportunities for our disabled countrymen are still sparse and few.

Yet every once in a while, like a breath of fresh air or perhaps a miracle, there is someone who proves that being disabled is just a state of mind. These exceptional people excel in tasks that “normal people” are akin to, and sometimes they’re even better.

Meet Erwin Dayrit, a Kapampangan who is unbelievably gifted in the visual arts. He recently went viral when he posted a painting of Apo Whan Od, the famous magbabatok in Benguet, done entirely with colored ball point pens.

People were even more delighted and amazed when they learned that he was born with Osteogenesis Imperfecta, more commonly known as brittle bone disease. The illness impairs their growth and disfigures their bones

Despite his condition, Erwin continuously amazes and delights people with his undeniable talent.

Aside from drawing, he also teaches students about visual arts in a group called "Guhit".

Who knows, he might be our future National Artist. What do you think?
