After the House probe on drug proliferation in the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) was concluded, Sen. Leila De Lima together with 7 other personalities face drug trafficking charges filed by Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC), led by its founding chairman and incumbent president Dante Jimenez.
Apart from De Lima, the VACC together with the Department of Justice charged Justice undersecretary Francisco Baraan III, former Bureau of Corrections director Franklin Jesus Bucayu, De Lima’s former security aides Joenel Sanchez and Jad de Vera, her former driver Ronnie Dayan, high-profile inmate Jaybee Sebastian and a certain Wilfredo Ely with cases of sale of illegal drugs and conspiracy to commit drug trade under Republic Act 9165.
The complaint affidavit filed was 65-page long and it cited the testimonies of witnesses during the House inquiry of the NBP drug trade. De Lima was accused of receiving millions worth of money from the drug trade which she allegedly used for her senatorial campaign.
The VACC charged De Lima and others of “conspiring and confederating with one another, engaged in the sale and trade of illegal drugs inside and outside the Bilibid.”
Meanwhile, the Department of Justice already released an immigration lookout bulletin order against De Lima, Baraan, Bucayu, Dayan, and Sanchez on Monday.
