A policeman who has been in a coma for 9 months is lucky to have a wife who does not give up on him no matter. Last January, Francis Michael L. David was hospitalized due to difficulty in breathing and chest pain after his duty for the Sinulog Festival in Cebu City. He was pronounced dead on arrival but was luckily revived by the doctors.
David suffered from Hypoxic and Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE) because of the cardiac arrest and cardiac arrhythmia. Although he was revived, his brain was damaged and it left him in comatose. David stayed in the hospital's Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and was brought home after 3 months. His wife Shieka David continued to remain strong despite of the incident. On the same month, the couple received a good news about the twins they were blessed with. Shieka recalled how glad Francis was when they received the news.
“As in happy talaga siya, kahit sino ‘yung makita niya, ‘yung mga kakilala niya, sinasabi niya na twins daw ang anak namin" Shieka said quoting from kami.com.
Prior to the twins, the couple also have a son named Irdy. Shieka told kami.com how their son would do random things just to wake his father up. She said that Irdy would sometimes sing or dance to get his father's attention.
After being in comatose for 9 months now, Francis already lost his sight and the doctors had to create a hole in his heart to help him in his breathing. Shieka recalled how loving and cheerful his husband was before the illness took him over. She also mentioned how Francis loved to spend his day-off with their son.
The situation is harder for Shieka especially that she just gave birth to the twins last August. However, she remained optimistic and strong. She promised that she will never get tired of waiting for the day they will live normally and happy again.
"Mahal na mahal ko po siya, at gagawin ko po ang lahat para lang sa kanya" said Sheika.
