A Shih Tzu and a cat melted netizens’ hearts worldwide with their heartwarming friendship.
Michelle Smith, an animal control officer, received a call, saying a dog has been barking in the area for two days now. She checked the area and saw the barking shih tzu with a kitten lying beside it.
Smith said the dog could’ve left the kitten, but refused to do so. It acted as the mother. It cared and fed the kitten for days. The constant barking was its way of seeking help for its poor "baby."
She took them to Anderson County P. A. W. S. and the two became “inseparable.”
Popular media outlets, such as Buzzfeed, published the story and the animal center received numerous of requests to adopt the pair.
The winner was a man named Joe Harris, who named the pair Goldie (dog) and Kate (kitten), a tribute to mother-and-daughter Goldie Hawn and Kate Hudson.
Joe told Buzzfeed that he was lucky because their family used to have a dog and a cat, who both passed away in 2012. Now, Joe is “having fun” taking care of the family’s new pets.
“The pair spend much of their time running around the house and wrestling,” Joe said. “Goldie still acts as Mama to the growing kitten and lets her cuddle and try to nurse during quiet time at night."
