When you ride a roro, you might find kids and teenagers in their small bancas waiting for your passengers to throw them some coins. This is a usual sight in piers that it's easy to overlook why they are doing it in the first place.

GMA’s Award-winning documentary “Front Row” gives us a glimpse of the life of Lola Maria, a 78-year old diver of coins in Dalahican Ferry Terminal in Lucena, Quezon

Despite her old age, Lola Maria continues to dive for coins to support her four grandchildren. She would paddle to the pier at dawn and collect coins until late in the afternoon. To her, every peso thrown counts. She earns P100 to P200 pesos a day, an amount she will divide between their daily expenses and her grandkids’ education.

Things are looking bleak for Lola Maria, however. She revealed her eyesight is gradually becoming poor. Her trusty banca also has holes in them and she doesn’t know for how long it could carry her to the pier.
