The mythology The X-Files has developed through nine seasons and two movies is going to continue tonight when the show returns to FOX after fourteen years off the air (since May 19, 2002, when the 202nd and last episode of the legendary TV show aired). The younger generation will be introduced to the TV show that paved the way for many great sci-fi TV series that followed in the last fifteen years, while the older generation and especially X-Philes (the name of the show’s hard-core fans) can’t wait to feed their nostalgia with new episodes. The phrases “the truth is out there” and “I want to believe,” which were everywhere in pop culture in the nineties thanks to The X-Files, will bring back memories through the new six-episode miniseries where the older but wiser Fox Mulder and Dana Scully will return to fight creepy monsters, confront aliens, expose government conspiracies, and who knows what else. Maybe things are even bleaker and more complex than they were over a decade ago? We can’t wait to find out! So dare to take a nostalgic trip with us as we go over 25 Startling Facts About The X-Files. Because as we all know “The truth is still out there”.

Carter’s, Anderson’s, and Duchovny’s original contracts expired after the fifth season since Carter originally planned to end the show after five seasons and continue the story in a series of feature films. FOX, however, found the demand for the show way too high to cancel it so they made the first film (1998) between seasons five and six and kept going with the show until 2002.
