In the February 9, 2019 press conference, Warner Bros. Japan announced the debut of an anime movie based on the game franchise Ni no Kuni. The film is being produced by the Japanese video game developer Level 5.

Akihiro Hino, the Chief Executive Officer of Level 5, is the movie’s scriptwriter and producer. The original gaming series is also the brainchild of Hino who is said to have “launched a movement in Japan.” In the director’s chair is the experienced Yoshiyuki Momose while the music is being composed by Joe Hisaishi. OLM from Pokémon are responsible for the animation, bringing their experience of animating the franchises of Inazuma Eleven to the table. The lead character is being played by actor Kento Yamazaki. The distributor of the film is Warner Bros. Japan who termed the project “global” and revealed that it has been ten years in the making.

The press conference was attended by the producer Hino and director Momose. Along with a short trailer that was released as a teaser, the attendees were given an insight into the game’s character design.

The story revolves around a high-school student Yū (played by Yamazaki) and his friends Haru and Kotona. An unforeseen event leads them to travel between the real world and Ni no Kuni. During the game, Yu and his friends face the ultimate decision when the life of one of their friends gets in danger.

It was announced on the main website of “AnimeJapan 2019 Convention” that the event for “Warner Brothers Film New Film Stage” will be held on March 23, 2019. The time for the event is 3.15 pm to 3.50 pm. Further details with be revealed at the said event while voice actors and movie staff will also be present.

Ni no Kuni: Dominion of the Dark Djinn, the very first game was introduced in December 2010 for Nintendo DS and Japanese phones on the tenth anniversary of Level 5. In November 2011, it was followed by Wrath of the White Witch for PlayStation 3 in Japan.

A local version for the Western market was published in January 2013 by Namco Bandai Games. The sequel titled “Revenant Kingdom” was released by Level 5 in March 2018 for Microsoft Windows as well as PlayStation 4.

Two mobile games, namely the Hotroit Series (December 2010) and Daibouken Monsters (May 2012) have also been offered to the avid followers and players of the series.

All the games in the series are acclaimed as the top of the line involving role play. They are highly rated for their visual designs, authentic stories, intricate characters, and soundtrack; all these traits offer the gamers matchless gameplay.

They have received numerous awards from several gaming publications and have been heralded as “one of the best experiences on DS” while being described as “gorgeously crafted” and “vibrant and exciting.” Their popularity can be gauged by the fact that in May 2018, collectively 2.8 million copies of the series were shipped the world over.
