Becoming a mother has been life-changing. It’s been hard, tiring, gratifying, beautiful, challenging, scary and a thousand other things that only a parent would ever understand.

It is these life-changing experiences that have inspired me to draw my everyday life as a stay at home mom. Whether it’s the mundane tasks like doing laundry or the exciting moments of baby’s first steps, I want to put it down on paper so that I can better cherish these fleeting moments that are often overlooked.

Being a stay at home mom can be incredibly lonely. I like to think that by drawing life’s simple moments, I can connect with other mothers and help them feel less alone. By doing this, I feel less alone, too. It’s a win-win situation and I have been able to connect with many lovely parents and fellow parent-illustrators through my Instagram account.

Newborns are so tiny snuggled up in your arms, then one year later they get so long and big. And yet, they still manage to fit perfectly in your arms

Peacefully sleeping with baby when suddenly… BAM. Rudely awakened

Our last visit to the pediatrician looked something like this. Actually all our visits to the pediatrician look like this

Flying with a toddler is a delicate balance of skill, patience and well planned carry-ons

Colouring with a two-year-old like, “please don’t touch me with that marker”

Today’s shower shenanigans involved discovering the faucet as a great source of fun

A.k.a everyday

When your toddler is having a really hard time sleeping due to teething, but you don’t want to undo months of sleep training

What our weekend normally looks like (just kidding, James can’t settle for longer than 5 seconds when we’re all together in the bed)

Working out at home has its own set of problems when you’re a mom

Trying to focus on the little moments that warm my heart

James refuses to sleep anywhere but his crib. But when he was little(r), I would take him into our bed in the morning, nurse, and we would sleep until 10am sometimes even 11am

James is my constant reminder to stay present. I have a bad habit of getting caught up on my phone, wasting my time instead of doing something fulfilling. When I’m in my haze, he comes up to me with a toy, eagerly calling me to play with him

James has been all about mommy lately. All doors must stay open (including the bathroom and shower) so that he can keep a strict watch on me. Leaving the room without him is not an option

Cloth diapers bring on a real, serious addiction. They’re supposed to be “economical” but as soon as you get one, you NEED to get them all

James and I are learning Italian, and normally we do it during breakfast

Only just recently James learnt to sit up on his knees and reach for things. Now he is starting to prop one leg up, but it sort of just flops around without much purpose

It is finally getting nice and warm out, and James and I are trying to soak up all the sun rays we can tan our ghostly winter skins

Sometimes when James is being pathetic and crying for no good reason, we will mock him by mimicking Tarzan cries

Camping with baby is actually a lot easier than it seems

We went to the grandparents where there are lots of new things to see and experience, including cute chickens

I sewed up one toe hole in James’ cute PJs, but as soon as I did another one poked through

Rainy days, rainy days

Super sunny and warm every day of the week, EXCEPT the day we have to leave the house and go into town

Warm summer days, enjoying all the fresh air and sweet blooms

I can’t be the only “bad” parent that doesn’t watch age appropriate things with their kid. I mean he’s only 18mo, he can’t possibly understand what that dragon’s doing, right!?

Snuggled up in his favourite blankie

We love going for walks on forest trails, even though our stroller is not quite suited for it

Lazy mornings in bed watching YouTube videos together

James has some pretty good dance moves. Whenever music comes on, he gets to boogie’ing and we follow suit. Our favourite move is the elbow jab

Buildin’ stuff and being a boy with papa

I finally cut James’ very unruly hair, and somehow managed to keep his ears intact. Giving him a forbidden item definitely helped keep his attention elsewhere (in this case the remote control)

Ever have one of those days that just SUCK for no particular reason? I like to draw the cute and sweet moments of motherhood, but it is definitely not always like that. Some days are really hard and you find yourself breaking down on the living room floor after you finally get baby to go down to sleep

This is what weekends look like for us. We like to stay at home and eat pancakes on the couch while watching our favourite Sunday shows

SICK! Feeling all sorts of awful and it’s all James’ fault. Now I’m stuck lying on the couch like a dead potato. James was the first to get sick in our house, but still seems to have lots of energy for crawling on me like a monkey

We bought James his first pair of underwear with cute little trucks on it. But the sizing is way off so they just end up sliding off his tiny bum

I love having a tiny human that I can dress up in ridiculous costumes. James was a chicken last year

Always “helping”

I wanted to draw a picture of James with his papa, but them snuggling and being cute didn’t exactly feel right. This is more what they get up to

Toddlers being toddlers

Electronic toys are either a life saver or the bane of a parent’s existence. They are great at occupying kids so that you can (finally) get some stuff done, but the incessant noise creeps deep into your ear canal where it travels through your body and seeps into your bones

Sleepy dreams with my little squish

James is in LOVE with cars lately (or all things trains, planes and automobiles)

It only took him 2 years, but James finally took his first steps alone

Welcoming warm weather and sunny days. Each new season is exciting with a baby, given how much they learn and grow with every day. Excited to be teaching him about all the plants and bugs this summer

My little bowl cut baby had his 2 year check up last week. Glad to be done with all the frequent jabs and continuous checkups

For my birthday my mom got me a meitai and I gotta say, I am so in love

Every night before bed I hold him like this just one second longer, hugging him tightly and taking him in

Never taking them off
