Raffy Tulfo In Action is a program that prides itself in fighting for the rights of the disenfranchised. The controversial Tulfo Brothers are well-known for being aggressive when it comes to hounding and punishing perceived abusers of the poor and unfortunate.
Recently, a victim of another big company came to the show ask for help from Raffy Tulfo. Kenneth Hizon, an employee of MetroWaste, pleaded his case to the show and its viewers.
Kenneth was injured on the job and his fingers were cut off. Following the accident, he was immediately brought to the hospital. As he was writhing in pain, his mother tried to ask for help from the company that employed him.
Unfortunately, her pleas fell on deaf ears as MetroWaste ignored her son's plight.
Legally speaking, MetroWaste has every responsibility to help Kenneth since he was injured while working.
In desperation, Kenneth's mother went to the Raffy Tulfo In Action helpdesk and aired her grievances. Upon hearing of Kenneth's plight, Tulfo didn't hesitate to contact the local government office where the accident occurred. The government agreed to help Kenneth with his fees and bills.
But suddenly, a miracle happened.
Even before Tulfo's respondents were able to arrive at the hospital, MetroWaste officials already paid the hospital bills amounting to almost 84,000 pesos. They also gave Kenneth an extra 12,000 pesos for his medicine. MetroWaste's main office handed out another 20,000 pesos for his other expenses.
Although this was a just outcome, it is still sad that regular people need to ask for help from someone influential just to assert their basic human rights.

It is saddening to know that power relations are still very much archaic in our country.
Hopefully, MetroWaste has learned its lesson and takes better care of its employees in the future.
