It is a custom for young Pinay teens to throw a debut party on their 18th birthday. These debut celebrations are usually lavish and extravagant, much like the Mexican quinceañera where the celebrant throws a party on her 15th birthday instead of on her 18th. These debut parties, or simply called debut, include ball gowns for the debutant, lots of guests, and plenty of food to keep the guests entertained.

Recently, a Filipina teen made a buzz all over the internet as she celebrated her debut at the MOA Arena

Dian Serranilla, the birthday girl, is the first ever girl to celebrate her 18th birthday in the grand concert hall. Netizens were shocked to see how expensive her celebration was judging by all the expensive MAC cosmetics used to do her make-up and the number of times she changed her gown. This celebration won’t be possible though without the help of her parents, especially her father.

But would you believe if we told you that her father not only wasn’t able to reach college, but also wasn’t able to study in high school?

Manoy Steve Seranilla, the CEO of Serranilla Group of Companies, which is a company that specializes in the food industry, came from a poor family during his youth.

According to reports, Manoy Steve came from poverty when he was a child and wasn’t able to finish his studies due to their financial troubles. He apparently only reached up to fifth grade in elementary. Afterwards, he started working.

At first, he became a helper in shoe shop in Divisoria. There really wasn’t much he could do about it since he was only a young boy without proper education. Next, he became a butcher in a meat shop. Afterwards, he ventured into being a delivery boy of meat to different restaurants, until he eventually opened his own meat shop.

As of now, he is continuing with his food business and living a wealthy life. He was even able to send some of his children to the prestigious Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Apart from his perseverance, Manoy Steve acknowledge his wife, Edna Seranilla, for being money-wise.

In an interview, he said “Mas malaki pa sana ‘yan kung nag-asawa agad ako.”
“Kasi noong binata ako, natuto akong magbisyo. Ang daming nasayang na pera. Marunong mag-ipon ng pera si Edna,” added Manoy Steve.
