What would you do if you unexpectedly receive a huge tip from a generous customer? You’d jump for joy, for sure. In the Philippines, getting huge tips is a rare occurrence, especially with the value of peso nowadays. 

People are more careful about how they spend and give away their money but in other countries, it’s a different case.  

In first-world countries like the United States, people are more likely to spend it the way they want to or to buy themselves luxurious things.  

In one couple’s case, they decided to hand out a generous tip to Cayla Chandara, a waitress in Hawaii.  

According to Kicker Daily, the couple tipped Chandara a total of $400, which was double the amount of their bill (that was $200).  

The source relayed that Chandara worked in a Thai cuisine restaurant on the night shift and at a Cheesecake factory in Waikiki during the day.  

She said that she served an Australian couple who engaged her to talk about her life—everything from her dreams to her struggles.  

Chandara revealed, “I told them I moved here for school, but I was kind of in a little bit of debt and I couldn’t go back to school, because I couldn’t afford it.”  

When the couple finally left the place, she was surprised to know that they left her a $400 tip. “I never get tipped that big. I had to say thank you,” she said.  

Chandara decided to give her thanks. She was able to remember the hotel that the couple were staying at from their conversation and as such, she went there the next day. She handed them a thank you card, dessert, and flowers.  

To her surprise, the couple went back to the restaurant the following day and offered her $10,000. They said that it was for her college tuition.  

Chandara said that she initially refused the offer, but accepted it eventually. She insisted on paying them back but the couple only replied to her through a text message, “Be your best possible self dream big and strive for your goals.” 

Chandara, on her part, said that she will “make them proud” and that she would take the opportunity given to her “with an open heart.”
