The news about a businesswoman who died while undergoing three cosmetic surgeries prompted the local government to shut down their operations down.

On March 26, 29-year-old businesswoman Shiryl Saturnino lost her life while undergoing three cosmetic surgeries simultaneously under the operations of The Icon Clinic on Shaw Boulevard. Although the case is still under investigation, the local government of Mandaluyong City already issued a cease and desist order against the clinic. The order is prompted by the police investigation indicating inconsistencies with the clinic’s legal documents.

Mandaluyong Mayor Menchie Abalos ordered the clinic to stop its operation after their office discovered that two different companies were the registered owners of the cosmetic clinic.

According to Inquirer, Mandaluyong public information office chief Jimmy Isidro said that the clinic’s operations permit is under the name of The Managed Care Phils. Inc. and the clinic itself, The Icon Clinic. Manage Care “had the required permit for ambulatory surgical services from the Department of Health” while The Icon Clinic lacks such document. The only document binding the two is a memorandum of agreement. Isidro emphasized that the permit is crucially necessary to prove that a clinic has the enough equipment to perform surgical operations safely.

“The Managed Care has a permit for ambulatory surgical service; Icon Clinic does not. We are still investigating why this is the setup and [will] wait for their explanation,” Isidro claimed, quoting from Inquirer.

Inquirer further reported that the city office issued a 72-hour period for The Icon Clinic to give their explanation regarding the flaw in their legal documents. Isidro then explained that the clinic’s failure to provide explanation will possibly result in confiscation of their license. However, this angle is still under further investigation as they have to prove if the clinic indeed violated some prohibitions. Isidro then mentioned that the company is very cooperative.

Aside from their cooperation, Isidro also recognized the clinic’s possession of required business permit and their consistency in paying their taxes.

Meanwhile, Ms. Shiryl’s autopsy report has yet to be released.
