We often see heart-breaking stories on television about mothers who have to make sacrifices in order to let their children live, but did you know that there are actual cases that happen in real life?  

You’ve probably read a lot about such stories but the case of Lian Ronghua is especially heart-breaking.  

According to Elite Readers, she has to choose who between her two sons would receive her kidney in order for them to survive. 

Even though a human has two kidneys, the source cited that an individual—in this case, Ronghua—needs at least one in order to function properly. 

This meant that despite having two sons, Ronghua would only have to donate to one of them. Both of her sons, Li Haiqing (26-years-old) and Li Haisong (24-years-old) suffer from a debilitating kidney condition known as uremia. 

Ronghua’s husband has high blood pressure so his kidney can’t be donated to either of the sons. 

  

Haiqing wanted to be a doctor and he urged his mother to donate her kidney to his younger brother instead. According to Daily Mail, he said, “We will save little brother first.”  

It was said that before the operation took place, Ronghua wept tremendously and claimed, “I only have one kidney and I can only save one son. No matter who I give it to it’s unfair.”  

Ronghua accepted her older son’s wish and decided to donate her kidney to Haisong, the younger one.  

The operation cost the family “several thousand yuan.” The father, Li Xiukai, claimed that they might never afford a second operation for Haiqing should a suitable donor be found.  

It was said that both of the sons argued between each other over who would receive their mother’s kidney in the hopes of surviving.  

However, it was Haisong who was successfully operated upon. Haiqing said to his mother, “He is a graduate, he can find a good job easier.”  

Meanwhile, Haiqing has to wait for someone who could willingly donate a kidney for him.
