Perhaps, pearl is the best-loved gem of all time. It can be natural and cultured and it occurs in a wide variety of colors. The most familiar are white and cream, but the palette of colors extends to every hue. Natural pearls are formed around a microscopic irritant in the bodies of certain mollusks.

Gretchen Barretto first fell in love with pearls when Dominique Cojuangco, her daughter, was 10 months old. “My dada [husband Tony Boy Cojuangco] purchased 2 sets of necklaces & earrings in time for Dominique 1st birthday,” the actress wrote on her Instagram post.

Gretchen has collections of necklaces, earing, bracelets, and pendants in various shapes and colors. Her pearls come in white, silver, crème rose, champagne, deep gold and multiple colored strands. But how much do these pearls really cost? 

According to Jewelmer’s, a 12-mm pair of white pearl earrings cost $1,350 or P66, 960. A pendant’s average cost is P228, 160, and one strand of 13-16-mm white necklace is around $64, 000 to P3, 174, 400. 

A one big gold necklace is worth P8 M and the most expensive color is champagne. The price actually depends on the size, skin purity and luster.

A close friend of Gretchen, RS Francisco, shared one of his conversations with the 47-year old sophisticated actress about pearls.

"Parati kong sinasabi sa kanya: Girl, isang condominium na iyan na maganda,” Francisco said.

"Alam mo ang sagot niya? 'Masusuot ko ba ang condominium? E, di nadaganan ako!'"

This means the actress is really fond of pearls and wearing it adds to her sophisticated autra.
