Things may be looking up for Kris Aquino, who’s been off the mainstream radar for a while now.

The “Queen of All Media” is reportedly going to play a South East Asian princess (possibly Malaysian or Bruneian) in the Warner Brothers movie of the bestselling novel “Crazy Rich Asians” by Singaporean author Kevin Kwan

She’s the first Filipina to be cast in this Hollywood movie so far.

According to a report by the Inquirer, Kris flew to Los Angeles last Easter Sunday for a contract signing with the film’s producers.

Joining Kris is international Malaysian superstar Michelle Yeoh – who is set to play ‘Eleanor Young’ the rich matriarch of an old Singaporean family

The novel Crazy Rich Asians is the story of the heir of this Singaporean family’s wealth:  the Ivy-League- educated Nick Young.

He flies home to Singapore for a friend’s wedding while his New Yorker girlfriend accompanies him.

Novelist Kwan gives a bold look into the lives (both public and secret) of Singapore’s wealthy elite and ‘the chi-chi’ set.

As reported by Inquirer, Kwan had visited the Philippines two years ago and met with their lifestyle set. The author apparently drew inspiration from some of its characters and incorporated them into his story.

It’s safe to assume that the movie producers and Kwan had Kris in mind while making this film.

Kris had teased her involvement with novelist Kwan when she posted that he began following her on Instagram.

In fact, Grammy and Tony award-winning producer Jhett Tolentino attempted to contact Kris through representatives such as Rep. Len Alonte as well as Nene Chan - who forwarded the offer to Aquino’s sister Ballsy.

Kris hired director Ricky Villabona, Jules Dacanay, and makeup artist Juan Sarte for a hasty audition shoot. Her team had 72 hours to prepare and edit her audition reel as well as a video biography at a suite at Peninsula Manila.

The producers and director were apparently impressed with Kris’ audition video.

Director Jon Chu – famous for his work in GI Joe and Step Up – will be in charge of adapting this novel for the silver screen.

“At this particular point in my life, to have the Hollywood door open is God-sent,” Aquino stated.

We couldn’t be happier for your success Kris! Good luck in Hollywood!
