45 are dead and almost 100 have been left injured after the bombing of two churches in Egypt on April 9th. It has been dubbed the 'Palm Sunday Massacre' as it happened on the same date of the beginning of the Holy Week.

Pope Francis expressed his grief over the tragedy. He is set to visit Egypt from April 28th to April 29th

“I pray for the dead and the victims. May the Lord convert the hearts of people who sow terror, violence and death and even the hearts of those who produce and traffic in weapons,” he said.

Egypt is under a declared state of emergency for three months while the police's armed units are on full alert and the public is constrained with strict limitations to investigate the crime.

The explosion first occurred during Sunday mass at the St. George’s Coptic Church in Tanta, City where 27 died and over 78 devotees were wounded.

Hours after the first, one suicide bomber attacked St. Mark’s Coptic Church in Alexandria where 17 also died and 48 were left harmed.

The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) owned up to both explosions under the leaderships of Abu Al-Baraa Al-Masri and Abu Ishaaq Al-Masri.
