Recently, an old man earned the pity of many netizens after a photo of him went viral. In the photo, the old man with a disability was seen cleaning the dirty streets of Pagadian City, Zamboanga Del Sur.
Netizens were confused and angry with the fact that he had to perform such a difficult task.
Mamdouh Gallentes Balatucal urged the administrator of the Facebook page Matalinong Matsing to post the photo. He wanted to raise awareness about the old man's situation so that the local government would do something about it.
“Siya po ay naglilinis sa my bandang Gate7 Agora market ng Pagadian City Zamboanga del Sur. Tama po ba na hayaan na lang siya sa ginagawa nya? Nililinis niya ang dumi at basura ng ibang tao? My kapansanan po at matanda na si tatay.. Dapat po pinagpapahinga siya,” Balatucal wrote in the caption.
“Kung di man natin matulungan sa personal na pangangailangan sana naman po huwag natin hayaan din na maglinis sya at magligpit sa kalat ng iba.” he added.
Many netizens expressed their dismay at the old man's situation in the comments section. According to them, he shouldn't be forced to do something like that just to earn a living.
One netizen questioned the whole thing and commented:
"Ang tanong,bakit nga ba ang isang matanda at may kapansanan ang hinayaang maglinis ng kalat? Samantalang mayroong ahensiya ang dapat mag patupad ng mga bagay na ito. Hindi porket isang matanda na maaaring wala ng mapagkunan ng ikabubuhay ay hahayaan na lang nating gumawa ng ganitong bagay. Dapat nga tayo ang unang tumulong lalo nat sa may ganitong karamdaman,sana naman ay mayroong isang ahensiya na mkapansin at matulungan ang isang matandang kagaya nito."
Another netizen said that the old man has been cleaning that particular area for a long time: "Matagal na na yang nag lilinis yang matandang iyan jan sa pagadian city walang araw na diko sya nakikita jan sa palengki"
Another expressed his admiration and said: "Hindi natin alam kung bakit ginawa ni tatay ang ganyang trabaho. Bzta ako saludo ako sa kanya. Dahil marangal ang trabaho niya. Malay natin ginawa nya yan para sa pamilya.."
The post has already garnered over 700 reactions and over 600 shares. The local government of Pagadian City has yet to give a statement regarding the old man's situation.
