Being an evangelical preacher in Sierra Leone is spiritually rewarding, but is hardly enough to support a family.

Pastor Prays To God For A Miracle, Finds A 709-Carat Diamond In A Mine!

And so, for the past five years, Pastor Emmanuel Momoh has been praying to God for a miracle to help him and his loved ones to get out of poverty.

With what little he had, Momoh started a small mining business with 18 employees but only managed to find a few tiny gems.

"Diamonds are extremely hard to find on the ground, it requires patience, hard work and prayers," Momoh told Agence Presse-France.

The income he gets from selling their meager haul was barely enough to cover his family's basic needs. He also had his workers' wages to worry about.

But on March 13, his prayers were answered.

"God don bless we tiday," said one of his miners in Krio, the local language in Sierra Leone, as he showed the pastor a diamond about the size of a child's fist.

The diamond was assessed at 709 carats and is about the 10th to 15th largest of its kind in history. Its value gave Momoh an ethical dilemma.

"I was tempted by many close friends who told me to smuggle the diamond to neighboring Guinea Conakry," he said.

Smuggling the diamond would mean he gets away from taxes but the pastor decided to take the high road.

"Being a man of God, I decided to hand it over to local authorities," Momoh said.

The decision instantly made him famous and gave him the opportunity to meet with the President of Sierra Leone, Ernest Bai Koromo

The exact monetary value of the diamond has yet to be assessed, but a 25-carat portion cut from it will fetch about $2.2 million to $3.6 million in the market.

Momoh promises to share this blessing with his workers. But there's one more thing he's praying for.

"The people dealing with the diamond," he said, "I hope they are as honest with me as I have been with them."
