We are usually advised by our elders to first prioritize our studies before delving into matters of the heart. 

Time and time again, they tell us “mag-aral ka muna.”  

But the heart wants what the heart wants. After all, you only live once, right? YOLO, as the kids say nowadays. 

But what happens when we are overwhelmed by love? What should we do? 

Should we just follow the infamous phrase, “thesis muna bago landi,” or just plunge right into the wonders of love? 

Maude Tabigue and Lui Alvarez followed their hearts and took the risk. 

They succumbed to their feelings and defied the advice of their elders because they found that love was not a distraction but rather an inspiration. 

ABS-CBN News reported that Tabigue, a 26-year-old medicine graduate of Southwestern University Matias H. Aznar Memorial College of Medicine in Cebu City, passed the Physician Licensure Exams together with Alvarez, her boyfriend. 

Out of 1,317 examinees, only 813 passed, including Tabigue who obtained a rating of 87, placing 4th.

The young woman said that passing the board exam was a dream come true for her, along with becoming the only doctor in their clan from Carmen, Bohol. 

In an interview, she stated: "I offer this (success) to God, and to my family of course.” 

She mentioned that, apart from her family, it was Alvarez who kept her going. 

"It's possible, really. You just have to help each other, avoid unnecessary conflict and be each other's study buddy," she said. 

They met in medical school and studied together for the board exam.
