For most people, wedding day is always the biggest and most memorable. It is usually a day full of emotions, joy, laughter, and tears. Weddings are also a day full of surprises, which may include parents cooking up something, close friends making emotional speeches, or special dances that makes the guests teary eyed.
In the autumn of 2008, Kristeena and Luke Rheault tied the knot in West Palm Beach, Florida. While everyone was full of excitement during that day, Rebekah, the mother of the groom, had a different feeling. Diagnosed with ALS a year before the wedding, she knew that she did not have many years or even months left in her life.
But for that special day, Rebekah was full of life and ready for her son’s wedding. Little did she know that Luke had cooked up a memorable surprise for his mother. He was scheduled to dance with his mother to the heartwarming song “Hero” by Mariah Carey.
With his bride and the wedding guests watching the special moment, Luke went down on his knees so he would be the same height as his wheelchair-bound mom. Luke then kissed her on the forehead, took her hand, and led her to the dance floor. It was such a powerful and touching scene that everyone in the reception hall were in tears.
Kristeena was so moved by her husband’s gesture that she uploaded it on YouTube, where it has been viewed more than 15 million times.
Rebekah died less than a year after. But as painful as it is for Luke, he knew that there was a memory he could never forget: that smile, tears of joy, and unforgettable dance with his mother.
