2002 was a sad year for the fans of Filipino matinee idol Rico Yan because it was the year that he died from cardiac arrest due to acute hemorrhagic pancreatitis. He lost his life on March 29, 2002.

According to ABS-CBN News, Claudine Barretto, his former girlfriend and on-screen partner, declared that Rico’s death is her own “yearly nightmare.”

She admitted on her Instagram account that yearly she makes an effort to distract herself from the loneliness she feels whenever March 29 arrives.

She said in one of her posts, “Hit again! Para wala nang lungkot. [I] Hate this day. March 29, every year you are my nightmare! Missing you, RY.”

Claudine posted a video of her intensely working out, saying that she does this in order to distract herself from having lonesome thoughts.

Cosmopolitan Philippines reported that Rico and Claudine had a relationship for four years.

Rico was a graduate of Marketing Management from De La Salle University, which earned him the “preppy rich persona” during his career in showbiz. This could be evident in the movies where he appeared in, namely ‘Radio Romance,’ ‘Ama, Ina, Anak,’ and ‘Madrasta.’

He gained recognition when he played as Gabriel Maglayon in ‘Mula Sa Puso’ in 1997, where he starred alongside Claudine.

Rico starred in ‘Mara Clara,’ ‘Saan Ka Man Naroroon,’ ‘Whattamen’ and several Star Cinema films. The film production company ranked him fifth in the list of the “Kings of Star Cinema” twelve years after he lost his life.

To commemorate his 15th death anniversary, ABS-CBN Star Cinema uploaded a music video for the film ‘Got to Believe,’ which is arguably one of his most famous films with Claudine.
