After disbanding from the Star Magic’s “Angels” actress Karen Reyes tried to join another all-female Girltrends in the ABS-CBN noontime variety show “It’s Showtime.”
Unfortunately the 1st runner up of Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Edition 4 has left the girl-group soon after. She says that she was unhappy during her stay with the group, saying that the other Girltrends members were unfriendly towards her.
“Umalis ako kasi kung ganu’ng grupo yung masasalihan ko, might as well ‘wag na lang. Kasi yung Girltrends kasi, ang hirap lang kasi ng pakikisama. Hindi ako masaya,” Karen admits.
Karen says her experience with her former group Angels was better because they were happy to perform together. While Girltrends was a completely different struggle and circumstance.
“Yon yung struggles talaga. Kasi yung Angels kaya ko naman, eh. Masaya naman kami nung binubuo namin yon, pag nagpe-perform kami masaya naman kami. Itong Girltrends, iba eh,” she says.
Karen clarifies that she wouldn’t stay in a situation where she is unhappy – where the only thing such a group does is be seen and get paid. She says her passion is in her art and that she’ll do her best to further her career in that field.
“So hindi na ako nag-stay kasi ang hirap gumawa ng isang bagay na hindi ka masaya, na gusto mo lang ng exposure, na gusto mo lang ng pera. Ako kasi, passion ko ang pag-aartista so gagawin ko yung best ko para mapaganda yung career ko. Kung everyday malungkot akong pupunta don at mapaaway lang ako, huwag na lang,” dire-diretso niyang paliwanag,” she adds.
She even admits that she almost fought with one of her fellow Girltrends co-stars.
“Muntik na talaga, kasi parang nag-aaway sila, eh, bilang matanda inawat ko tapos ako pa yung napasama. Eh, ako hangga’t kaya kong hindi magtaray, hindi ako magtataray, pero nangyari yon.
After the incident, Karen decided to call it quits. The actress says she was in tears during some of her rehearsals. During one such rehearsal she politely asked her bosses to release her.
“After that, tinatawagan nila ako for rehearsal pero sabi ko, ‘ayoko na po.’ Nagpaalam naman ako sa mga boss na ayoko na kasi hindi na ako masaya. Alam mo, umiiyak ako noon habang nagre-rehearse… ganung level."
According to Karen, there was no friendly atmosphere in the group; only a hostile competitive one.
“Kasi friendly ako, eh. Clingy ako sa mga friends. Eh, nung time na yon hindi ko alam yung steps, hindi man lang tinuturo sa akin. Ganun sila kaya nasaktan talaga ako… na bakit may kompetisyon?”
