In a recent interview with ANC's Headstart with Karen Davila, PNP Chief Director General Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa said he received a call from a mysterious "higher official" ordering the reinstatement of Superintendent Marvin Marcos.

"May tumawag sa akin. Di ko na sabihin [kung sino], basta may tumawag sa akin. Hindi ako nag-sinungaling ah, pero ayokong sabihin sa’yo kung sino yung tumawag dahil akin na lang yun. Basta may tumawag sa akin," Philippine National Police Chief Dela Rosa told Karen Davila.

Marcos was outed by drug lord Kerwin Espinosa as one of the police officers who received money from him. Dela Rosa said he issued an order to relieve the superintendent but was halted by a "higher official

Many speculated on the true identity of the official. Some say it was President Rodrigo Duterte or someone else in his staff.

Dela Rosa neither confirmed nor denied these claims.

"Sabi ko mas mataas sa akin, alangan namang—sino bang mas mataas sa akin? E di doon sa taas."

Enter Sen. Leila De Lima.

Sen. De Lima claimed that Presidential Management Staff head Christopher Lawrence "Bong" Go was the official who called the PNP Chief. De Lima said this information came from her own "reliable sources." The senator did not reveal the identity of her sources.

In a text message to ABS-CBN, "I will not and will never disclose my source. That info was given to me in confidence. I cannot breach the confidence accorded me by my source.”

Go denied these allegations, calling them "unsubstantiated."

"I did not ask General Bato to reinstate him. I also do not interfere with the affairs and functions of the PNP," Go said.

However on Friday, the enigma of the secret higher official was revealed to be non-other-than...Pres. Duterte himself.

In an interview with CNN Philippines' Ina Andolong, the President clarified what exactly happened leading up to Marcos' reinstatement. According to Pres. Duterte, he reinstated Marcos because it was an advantageous move in the investigation against the superintendent.

"Ganito ’yan, si Bong inoderan ko, call. By the time pinasa niya, ang sumagot si Dela Rosa. Sabi ko, do not remove the guy because kasali yan sa… I am doing an investigative job,"

"Natapos na yun, si Dolina was cleared. Marcos, positive. Kasi I was keeping track of his movements. Alisin mo ako doon, mawala bigla ang… Mawala lahat. Hindi ko masundan," he added.

Now the question is: Where did De Lima pick up the information about Bong Go's involvement?

What do you think?
