Dana Majhi, together with his daughter, sob while walking and had to carry the body of his dearly departed wife on his shoulders because he could not afford to rent a funeral vehicle.

Majhi’s wife Amangadei died from tuberculosis on Wednesday morning at a hospital 60 kilometers away from their village in Thuamul Rampur, Kalahandi

Unfortunately, her husband was left with no money, so he failed to rent a hearse to bring her remains back to their village. Authorities also failed to arrange one for them, so Majhi decided to carry her on his shoulders and personally bring her back to their village.

“I requested everyone, but no one listened. What option did I have other than carrying her?” Majhi said.

While on their way home, locals spotted them, bringing attention to their plight. That sparked the authorities to take action and help the poor family out. According to reports, it is not the only time such an incident happened in the village.
