After Senator Leila De Lima's public admission last Monday of having a romantic affair with former driver and bodyguard Ronnie Dayan, who was arrested by authorities for his involvement on drug transactions, a disbarment complaint against her before the Supreme Court is now being urged by critics.

The Senator owned up to the relationship, saying it is due to the "frailties of a woman". 

During a hearing by the House of Representatives justice committee on the illegal drug trade inside the New Bilibid Prison last week, Dayan shed light on their seven-year romantic relationship with the senator. 

As a reaction to this, the supplemental complaint filed by the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) said that "the admission of Senator De Lima about her illicit and scandalous relationship in public is definitely not a frailty of a woman who is a member of the Bar!" 

"Her public admission warrants her immediate suspension from the legal profession until this disbarment case is resolved," it added.

The supplemental complaint also consists of accusations of gross immorality for having a relationship with Dayan who is admittedly a link to drug distribution with reported drug lord Kerwin Espinosa.

De Lima defended herself from the disbarment urges referring to them as "all part of a circus" that is spearheaded by the Duterte administration.

The complainants, former National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) deputy directors Reynaldo Esmeralda and Ruel Lasala, and jueteng whistleblower Sandra Cam and Jimenez, are just "clowns", according to the senator.
