When we think of Salvador Dali, we usually think of melting clocks and surrealist paintings. But the famously flamboyant artist was also something of a culinary connoisseur, and in 1973 he even released his own cookbook called Les Diners de Gala. It was only printed once, and only around 400 copies are thought to remain, but thanks to Taschen, you too can now own a copy for the first time in over 40 years.

The publisher has decided to reissue the cookbook in all of its weird and wonderful glory, and as you can see, it’s just as strange as you’d expect. The 136 recipes, which were inspired by the legendary dinners that Dali and his wife Gala used to host, include everything from frog pasties to veal cutlets stuffed with snails, and all are accompanied by Dali’s suitably surreal illustrations.
