Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach finally spoke with regards to the rumor that the most awaited and prestigious beauty pageant in January 2017 here in Manila has been canceled. She said that everyone should wait for the final announcement. 

Speculations that Miss U will not be held in the Philippines started online when Tourism Undersecretary Kat de Castro posted on Facebook that the international beauty contest might not push through in the country. 

"I understand how people could easily jump to that conclusion because everybody's waiting for an announcement, but you know, we also talk about other things," Pia admitted. "We're working very hard in making happen. Please bear us. Very soon, I promise, we will have an announcement," She said during an interview with ABS-CBN News.

Department of Tourism Chief Wanda Teo confirmed that the next edition of the Miss Universe pageant will be held in Manila as early as July. They even included Davao as one of the venue for the auxiliary event. But people concluded the supposed cancellation because of lack of official announcement by the management of Miss Universe and as well as De Castro's post saying, "We have nothing to do with the cancellation. "
