There has been rumors spreading that the planned Miss Universe 2017 supposed to be held in the Philippines has been cancelled, and many netizens especially Filipinos do not like the sound of it. 

The rumors started from Ines Ligron, when posted on Facebook saying, “Breaking News: Miss Universe has pulled out and will not be held in the Philippines. Thought you would like to know…” 

The Department of Tourism was quick to dismiss the mere rumors of the supposed cancellation. In a statement sent to INQUIRER.net on Monday, DOT Undersecretary Kat De Castro said they were not aware of any cancellation as the meetings with the Miss Universe Organization (MUO) were still ongoing.

“We are not aware of any cancellation for Miss Universe. We are still having ongoing meetings with the MUO. Let us wait for official announcements before jumping into any conclusion,” De Castro said.

DOT also took to social media these answers for the Miss U enthusiasts to settle down, as tensions were already rising while people were waiting for an official statement. 

These rumors were almost believed by the people because it is true that foreign visitors are scared for their safety and the treatment that they might receive following all of the news about President Rodrigo Duterte and his arrogant behavior.
