For one year, two award-winning information designers, Giorgia Lupi and Stefanie Posavec, living on different sides of the Atlantic, sent each other postcards for a project titled ‘Dear Data’. But they weren’t your usual postcards, they were hand-drawn infographic postcards.
“Each week, and for a year, we collected and measured a particular type of data about our lives, used this data to make a drawing on a postcard-sized sheet of paper, and then dropped the postcard in an English “postbox” (Stefanie) or an American “mailbox” (Giorgia),” their website reads. “Eventually, the postcard arrived at the other person’s address with all the scuff marks of its journey over the ocean: a type of “slow data” transmission.” The whole project resulted to 52 weeks of different themed postcards, and Giorgia and Stefanie getting to know each other so well that they became great friends, even though they had only met twice.
The year-long project has been published into a beautiful 300-page book and is available on Amazon.
