Did you know that there is a reason behind your continuous leg shaking or what your parents usually call you out with, "kuyakoy"?

The Restless Leg Syndrome is the proper name for the fidgety that brings legs swinging freely to and fro in the air while one is seated (such as on a tall bench or swing).

In Tagalog, the verb form is kumuyakoy (active voice past tense), kinuyakoy (passive voice past tense), kumukuyakoy (active voice present participle), kinukuyakoy (passive voice present participle), kukuyakoy (active voice future tense: doer will do it himself), kukuyakuyin (passive voice future tense: doer will do it to his legs or to another persons legs).

Children and even adults unitl now do this activity often when they get bored or during play time. One can also do this with one leg crossed over the other and most women have done it at one time or another. Men have done it with one leg propped up higher on an armrest.

Most people are convinced that "kuyakoy" is a sign shown by a horny person. Some even say that it is another way of masturbation and an indication of insecurity for some women.

What is the truth behind these speculations?

According to a website functioned by Medical experts,

"The cause of restless legs syndrome is usually unknown. Experts think that RLS may be connected to how the brain uses dopamine and iron.

Genetics also plays a role. About half of people with restless legs syndrome have a family member with it.

Many medical conditions are linked to RLS, including iron deficiency, diabetes, end-stage kidney disease, Parkinson's disease, and pregnancy. But most people with restless legs syndrome do not have one of these conditions. If you have one of these conditions, treating it can improve RLS symptoms."

Usually, fidgeting is a product of being nervous or bored. So, RLS is one example of this. However, claims of RLS being a way of masturbation or a sign of being horny are not proven to be true by science.

Here are ways to control your RLS:

1. Cut down on caffeine.
2. Cut down on alcohol.
3. Stop smoking, or at least cut back.
4. Go to bed and get up at the same time each day, including weekends.
5. Exercise regularly, but moderately (heavy exercise can worsen symptoms).
6. Apply heat or ice, or soak in a hot bath.
