[Trending Now] This Is How PH President Duterte Got The ASEAN Chairmanship!

The President of the Philippines, Rodrigo Duterte assumed the chairmanship of the Association of the Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) because the leadership rotates among the members of the group according to the diplomatic officials, 

The supporters of the President congratulated Duterte after the announcement that he will be the next chairman of the ASEAN> 

Based on the Article 31 of the ASEAN's charter, "the chairmanship of ASEAN shall rotate annually, based on the alphabetical order of the English names of member states."

"Holding the chairmanship is on a rotation basis so we know when our turn is," the spokesperson of the Department of Foreign Affairs Charles Jose said in a text message. 

However, the alphabetical rotation of the chairmanship of the 10-member block is sometimes being disregarded because of particular circumstances. 

Last year, Laos asked Malaysia to host the 2015 summit, which is a year ahead of the schedule so that Laos could have more time to prepare. 

Sometimes main summit includes the leaders of the ASEAN Partners such as United States and China as well as the host country is organizing a meeting with the ministers and the other officials. 

The ASEAN 2017 s also the same time as the 50th anniversary of the group.
