As the government intensifies its war against the most notorious bandits in the Philippines, the Abu Sayaff, our own army pays these steps towards peace with their very lives. Just recently, 15 soldiers died during a clash at Patikul, Sulu, when they faced the heavy armored group of ASG. Those who died were from the 21st and 35th Infantry Battalion.
Recently, an emotional President visited the families of the soldier. He offered them financial assistance and even free education for the 'now' fatherless children.
“Now, these families left behind by the soldiers, I’d like you to know that you are automatic members of 4Ps, so there is some money there monthly and you will have one sack of rice,” says Duterte.
He also promised the widows jobs in the government.
“All widows will be given jobs in government and all your children will be enrolled in state colleges or schools,” he said.
He also criticized the bandits for being not a true Tausug and said: “I have a problem with the Abu Sayyaf because they are terrorists and killing and beheading civilians or soldiers in front of the world,” he said. “In the olden times, as the stories of our forebears go, the Tausug warrior is an honorable man. So why behead hostages? This is not the work of a true Tausug.”
“Let’s make the Philippines a country that everybody will love, no one will be shortchanged. If we get to talk and our Muslim brothers really want a federal system, why, it’s okay. Why should we kill each other?” he added.
Meanwhile, the government recently announced that they have deployed 2,500 more soldiers in Sulu to annihilate the bandits.
