The Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Director General Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa raises a new angle on seeking justice for the Davao Bombing last Friday in southern Davao. They are not ruling out the possible involvement of drug lords in the September 2 explosion, even from the fact that the Abbu Sayyaf already admitted to the crime.
“Aside from the Abbu Sayyaf na we suspect na ginawa nila yan to ease the tension sa ongoing military and police operations against them, nandyan pa rin yung isang angle na pinagtutuunan natin ng pansin: ‘yung narco-terrorism,” he said.
PNP Chief “Bato” explains in a press briefing last Monday that the blast may be connected to the administration’s war on drugs. Dela Rosa stated that it’s not impossible for drug lords to cooperate with the Abbu Sayyaf, because after all, they are all about the money.
"So kung ako'y mayaman na drug lord, pwede ko bayaran Abu Sayyaf. Pwede ko bigyan ng pera, sige bumomba kayo; you don't have to kidnap people. After all mga terrorista 'tong mga ito," he added.
Though there were no drug lords mentioned on the statement of an Abbu Sayyaf spokesman, Abu Rami, that the attack was to serve as a sign of unity of groups that pledged their allegiance to Islamic State jihadists in Iraq and Syria as he warned of similar strikes.
The police are not yet done with the investigation of the case as there are many statements that may help develop and find a lead to whoever is responsible for the blast. Witnesses said they heard one loud noise before 11 p.m., followed by smoke. They also said the explosion came from a massage parlor in the middle of the street where many were left bloodied around in shock over the blast.
At this moment, the PNP carries three major persons of interest related to the incident: one man and two women.
