Former Makati Mayor Junjun Binay refused to have an amicable settlement with Senator Antonio Trillanes IV over a libel case he filed against him at the Makati Regional Trial Court.

The son former Vice President Jejomar Binay said they were looking forward to convict Trillanes who investigated them at the Senate hearing over the alleged overpriced Makati parking building located near at their city hall.

“Let this be a lesson to him so that he will no longer use his position in bullying and destroying the reputation of people,” Binay said in a statement through his counsel Dan Subido.

Junjun sued Trillanes for libel after accusing him of bribing two Court of Appeals justices to rule against the the suspension order on him from the Office of the Ombudsman last year.

Last Tuesday, the court arraigned Trillanes who pleaded not guilty after being filed with cases by the court. However, when asked whether he is willing to settle the case amicably, the senator replied in affirmative by nodding his head.

Junjun told the court he won’t conduct a amicable settlement, prompting the judge to schedule the next hearing in November and December.

Trillanes remains defiant and said he will face the legal process as he chided the Binay camp for saying he would certainly be found guilty.

“Why can he say that? Is he controlling the court in Makati? Let’s see whether I will be convicted first, or they will be convicted ahead of me at the Sandiganbayan,” Trillanes said.

Trillanes is a staunch critic of the Binay family. He and Senator Alan Peter Cayetano spearheaded the investigation of former VP Binay’s alleged ill-gotten wealth before the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee last year.
