Self-confessed hitman and witness of the Davao Death Squad, Edgar Matobato is slowly losing his credibility as the inconsistencies of his statements continue to be noted by both senators and the public.

Matobato claims in his testimony that he was part of the Davao Death Squad run by President Rodrigo Duterte during his days as mayor. 

The president has also reacted to the statements and allegations of Matobato: "If you know it's a lie and you egg a person to testify, you are an active participant. 'Sige, sige mag-testify ka,' that is subornation of perjury."

Senate President Koko Pimentel has also been very vocal about the senate's decision on Matobato's request for protective custody, saying it was not granted due to lack of evidences on his life being threatened.

"I’ve denied the request for protective custody of the witness Matobato because there is no Senate rule to justify it, there’s even no showing that his life or safety is threatened," Pimentel said.

However, recent news claims that the witness allegedly confessed to his false allegations on the senate inquiry admitting that he have lied. 

Furthermore, he has made a public apology with regards to the accusations that have humiliated and threatened the president's good name. Reports also claimed that despite the confession, Matobato did not give further details on the reasons behind the act.

No evidences have yet been publicized regarding the alleged confession.
